A handcrafted blend created by our winemaker from the harvest of highly prestigious single vineyards, our Artisan 5 brand arose, like any great work of art, out of a passion for perfection. Since the Middle Ages, an apprentice Artisan proved his abilities and skills by creating a masterpiece. With that same passionate quest for perfection, our Artisan 5 Masterpiece represents our aspirations and the very best of our offerings, reflecting our vision of what a great wine should be – meticulously nurtured from the vineyard, to the barrel, to the bottle, and then sealed with the perfect cork. Sheer perfection!
Our Artisan 5 2013 Masterpiece was produced using fruit from three prestigious North Coast AVA’s. This blend is 85% Cabernet Franc and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc is well-represented with 60% from Lake County and 25% from Alexander Valley in Sonoma County. To complete this masterpiece, we spiced things up with a powerful Cabernet Sauvignon from Yountville, located in the heart of Napa Valley. The results are dense, concentrated with flavorful berries, ready to dazzle in the glass now and age beautifully over the next 5 to 7 years.
This Artisan 5 2013 North Coast Masterpiece has a deep, dark robe resulting from an extended maceration during fermentation and a careful ageing in oak barrels. The nose displays complex aromas with a combination of blackberry, black cherry and plum. The second nose reveals some vanilla, tobacco, licorice and leather notes. The palate of toasted flavors is one of the richest we have ever had in recent years at WineShop At Home. The mouth provides a round, silky, tannic structure in the attack. The French and American oak barrels play an immense role in the quality of this wine. The secret to the longevity of great red wines resides in their ability to have the right amount of acidity to protect them during the ageing process. Following a great balance of tannins and acidity, an elegant, creamy mouthfeel leads us all the way to the finish. Serve Artisan 5 with a rack of lamb, roast beef, roasted pork loin or a grilled Ribeye steak. Pair it with cheeses such as Camembert, Brie or Gruyere served on a rustic slice of bread. Try it with the featured recipe, Herbed Prime Rib.
