World acclaimed wineries, like Chateau Cheval Blanc in Saint Emilion France, are using close to 90% Cabernet Franc depending on the vintages. Our Harlow Court 2013 Cabernet Franc was produced using fruit from the North Coast AVA of Lake County. These vineyards are producing grapes using ecologically sustainable practices to improve the quality and intensity of flavors, such as crop reduction, leaf removal, organic materials and drip irrigation. Genetically from a cross between the Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon, this varietal has close to 1,800 acres planted mainly in Napa and Sonoma. These vineyards have been in place since the 80’s and have reached wonderful potential. Cabernet Franc represents 85% of the total volume. For extra depth and complexity, 10% of Merlot and 5% of Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley were blended. The result is dense, concentrated and flavorful, with the ability to age well over a decade. We suggest you decant this wine for 30 minutes at room temperature to release memorable aromas of this mature wine.
Our Harlow Court 2013 North Coast Cabernet Franc received an extended maceration during fermentation and 18 months of ageing in French oak barrels, which gives it a deep, dark robe. The nose displays a variety of mature aromas such as black currant, blackberry, mocha, coffee, licorice, leather and cigar box. The mouth offers an impressive amount of balance and nice tannins that coat the palate right away. The French and American oak barrel ageing provide a lengthy finish. All the components, from tannins, alcohol to acidity, are in perfect harmony. This elegant, bold red wine will pair well with game meat, roast beef or roasted pork loin. Enjoy it with cheeses such as sharp Cheddar, Camembert or Gruyere served on a rustic slice of bread. Try it with the featured recipe, Herb Pork Roast with Ginger Peach Glaze.
