Our Moderna 2018 Tannat was made with grapes from the Lodi appellation. Tannat has been cultivated for years in the southwest of France along the Pyrènées mountains. This is a classic Tannat, full of color, structure and exuberance. Behind a dark purple color, this young wine displays an intense nose with black currant, blackberry, prune and licorice aromas. There are hints of toasted oak and savory characteristics. Let’s call this Tannat “charmingly rustic.” The approach is intense with caramel, pomegranate, acai berry and dark chocolate. This rich wine releases smoky notes in the mouth all the way through to the finish.
The wine has an excellent structure and a medium body which will pair well with meatloaf, bacon-wrapped roasted chicken breast or pasta Bolognese. Enjoy it with the featured recipe: Applewood Bacon Chicken Skewers.
