Romance is in the air! Whether you’re a fan of heart-shaped boxes of chocolates or not, there’s no denying that this is the time of year to share what you love with the ones you love. How did we come to celebrate all things romantic and sentimental on Valentine’s Day?
You can thank the early Christian Saint Valentinus, who is said to have been imprisoned by the Romans for performing weddings for soldiers & other Christians. Legend has it that Valentinus fell head over heels for the daughter of his jailer, and on the night before he was to be executed for his crimes, gave her a letter inscribed “From your Valentine.” The day of his death, February 14th, has been celebrated with valentines and expressions of love ever since.
So gather your loves and friends close and celebrate the month of amore in style!
Raise a Glass Together:
Whether you’re single or coupled, remember that #WineIsSocial! Invite your best girlfriends over for a night of wine, pampering and fun. Friends with married couples that have children? An adults-only fete is just the break from the kiddos your friends are looking for.
Alternately, play the Host and the matchmaker with a singles’ Wine Tasting party. Design a seating chart that pairs up your single friends that share common interests. Or make a game of it with the Vinotype Quiz! Have everyone take out their smartphones and play along to discover their wine personality & then pair up accordingly — Sensitive Vinotypes sitting next to other Sensitive Vinotypes, Tolerant Vinotypes sitting next to other Tolerant Vinotypes, etc. They’ll taste wines with each other, compare notes and have a great time at a fun, unique singles party.
Whomever you choose to celebrate with, celebrate with wine, good food, laughter and conversation!

A Romantic Recipe & Cocktail Idea:
Chocolate Fondue: Place 3/4 cup heavy cream in a medium saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low, add the 8 ounces chocolate and whisk until smooth. Remove from the heat and whisk in 1 tablespoon unsalted butter until smooth. Whisk in 3 to 4 tablespoons of red wine until incorporated and smooth. Transfer to a fondue pot and serve with desired dippers
Wine Recommendation: Ceres Decadence
A chocolate flavored red wine, the Ceres Decadence is a blend of California Merlot infused with natural chocolate flavor extract. Rich chocolate flavors dominate the attack. There are some prune, cigar box, tobacco, coffee and jammy cooked red fruit notes in the finish. The mouth starts out with a kick of acidity to balance the richness of the chocolate flavors, which linger all the way to the mid-palate and throughout the finish. This soft and velvety wine will be an ideal combination with your favorite desserts and after-dinner celebrations.
Cherry Crush Cocktail:
- 1/2 ounce black cherry juice
- 1 ounce raspberry liqueur
- 4 ounces chilled Petit Cadeau Semi-Seco Sparkling wine
- Maraschino cherry for garnish
Pour the black cherry juice and raspberry liqueur into champagne flutes and stir. Top off with the sparkling wine. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and enjoy!
